An Afternoon In Ávila

A month or so ago, I went to the walled city of Ávila with some friends and family for lunch. Of course, I took my camera with me, as I always do. I didn’t have a lot of time to shoot–hey, the famous (and delicious) steak from there is huge and takes a while to get through–but I still managed to get a few shots I like.

Great pics. Love the black and white. Next step is to pinpoint Avila on a map. Thanks for the inspiration.

Thanks Jonny. West of Madrid and a little north. About an hour’s drive.

Thanks James. It’s a white stork. They nest on the towers of the cathedral in Ávila.

In spite of being such a photogenic city, it is remarkably difficult to do Avila justice. I think expanding the approach you have taken in photographing smaller chunks of the city and its daily life might well be the answer. Your essay left me wanting more…

Great photos Mike, you’ve captured the essence of Avila nicely, even though I’ve never been, I get a lovely sense of the place through your talented portrayal.
