Gateway to the Lost Mountain

TorlaThe medieval village of Torla, in Huesca, Aragon, guards the entrance to Spain’s oldest National Park,  Ordesa y Monte Perdido. The immense glacial valley of Ordesa, seen above, is so narrow and deep that it’s hard to get a glimpse of Monte Perdido (in English, Lost Mountain.) That’s quite a feat, considering that Monte Perdido is just over 11,000-feet high (3355 metres), which makes it Europe’s highest limestone peak. The park, located on the border between France and Spain, is one of Spain’s most stunning natural wonders and draws some 600,000 visitors every year. Photo ©Mike Randolph
